TSUKABAI

(Water Basin)

Introduced into the Japanese Gardens by the tea masters, the tsukabai is deliberately set low to make the guests stoop to wash their hands before the Tea Ceremony

Sometimes seen with the Shishi Odoshi, this one is set with a small bamboo waterfall

Apparently the word derives from 'tsukubau', 'to bend or crouch'
